In
his report on a visit to Ukraine, Dr
John Hemery Director of the Centre for Political and Diplomatic
Studies said:
"While
there remains a case for assisting the further organs of
central government, there is everything to be said for helping
those at local and regional levels such as women's groups
who have masses of ability, enthusiasm and capacity for
hard work, and lack only the technical skills and material
resources to give effect to them."
Our
experience is that women working in partnership with men
at all levels of political decision-making is more likely
to create a stable yet progressive democratic society. ·
At
a time when whole new societies are being shaped they are
in danger of becoming 'lop-sided'.
It is important that over 50% of the population feel they
have some stake in their new society - that means women
as well as men shaping the social, economic, and political
priorities. ·
At
this time of enormous change and challenges, future leaders
need to be drawn from the entire talent pool not just from
half the pool.
