2 participants from the pre-election Shevolution workshop in Egypt have just been elected to the people's assembly.  They are 2 out of only 8 women to be elected out of 444 available seats.  120 candidates out of the 4000 registered candidates were women (up from 87 ion 1995).  16 of these were adopted as candidates after attending a Shevolution workshop funded by The British Council and run for the Egyptian Centre for Women's Rights. One women, Nariman El Daramaly beat 9 male candidates to win in Sohag.

The National Council for Women made contact with all the participants and approached relevant governors and political parties who in turn adopted some of the participants as candidates and included them on the formal nominees' lists.  (2 from Qena, 1 from Alexandria and 2 others).
